Adoption
Ok, so since Sharemania.com is "out of order" I thought I would update everyone here.
For those that did not know, my wife and I are in the process of adopting a baby from China. I have officially finished the baby's room and last night we decided to give her a name... Sophia. Her middle name will be her current first name in China. Sophia _____ Thompson. We are hyped up.

Thanks [^_^x] .
We now figure this process is a trial in patience. The CCAA must think that anyone who has the patience to wait this long without a reasonable explaination as to why they still do not have a child; must have enough patience to be a parent in the first place.

This month the CCAA finished handing out Referrals to families who were logged in on or before June 28th 2005. This is 13 days worth of folks since last month they were finished through June 15th.
If it takes them 13 days per month average here is what it would look like:
July 2006 Referrals through July 11th 2005
August 2006 Referrals through July 24th 2005
September 2006 Referalls through August 6th 2005
October 2006 Referrals through August 19th 2005
November 2006 Referrals through September 1st 2005(our group since our login is August 30th 2005)
If this were the case, we would probably travel to get Sophia in January… so hopefully they can do more than 13 days at a time in the upcoming months and we can hope to get her before Christmas.

This is lengthy, but informative to anyone who wants to understand the process better and why we are still waiting.
So, lets start with an over view of how this works. After we finish all our paperwork, we send it to China for the CCAA to review. When the CCAA receives our paperwork they in turn give us a login date (pretty much the date they received our documents). Our LogIn Date or LID is August 30th 2005. The CCAA is the China Center for Adoption Affairs, a Chinese government run agency who controls any adoptions of a Chinese child.
Now, every month the CCAA tells us through which Log In Date (called LID) they have finished matching families to children for adoption. The families must be in the matching stage, and the children must be paper ready (meaning the orphanage has their medical background and approved them for adoption. Only select Orphnages are able to process international adoptions. So in this regard, the CCAA works all month to match a family with a child and announce at the end of the month what the LID cutoff date will be. This fluctuates depending on hopw many families are waiting, how many children are paper ready, and how many they could process that month. Also the CCAA has never split a date into groups, meaning if they can not manage to give every family on a specific login date a child, then the cutoff date will be the day before that. This is why it is impossible to guess when we will get our referral, because it varies depending on the children per family waiting ratio. And the referral is the picture and medical information of the child that we either accept or deny.
Are you still with me? Ok. So this month the CCAA has just released that they have finished matching families upt ot and including the LID date of 7-13-05. Lets take a look at how they have been progressing.
In April of 2006 they were done through June 5 2005 LID's
In May of 2006 they were only done through June 14 2005 LID's (so only 9 days)
In June of 2006 they were only done through June 28 2005 LID's (so 13 days)
And now in July they are done through July 13th 2005 LID's (which is 16 days worth)
So, knowing that we are August 30th 2005 LID, all we can do is estimate. If the CCAA does 16 days per month, then they will be through July 29th in August, August 14th in September, and August 30th (us) in October. This means we could get our referral in October if they continue at least 16 days worth of LID's at a time. If they speed up, we could possibly get the referral as early as September, and if they slow down it could be November or December for our referral.
Now, when you get your referral, and accept the child chosen for you, then the CCAA sets up a court date for our adoption. This date is what we schedule our trip around once we reveive Travel Approval. It usually takes 4-8 weeks after referral to the time you pickup your child. So if we get a referral in October (remember referrals come out at the end of the month) then we would travel as early as Thanksgiving time or as late as Christmas week. If we get a November refferal, it is extremely doubtful we will have her by Christmas.

Slow turning cogs eh? Still i'm sure you don't need a 21 year old student on the other side of the pond to tell you that it'll all be worth the wait..
